My, what an action packed few weeks. Um, hmm, I guess I stopped posting for a while there, didn't I? Well, what did we really expect? In my heart of hearts, I knew I wouldn't make it the whole 30 days. It's like signing up for the Tour de France when you haven't ridden a bike in 40 years. Um, wait...what is that saying about riding a bike? Ok, bad analogy. But still.
Anyway, let's move on with our lives.
Since our last episode, much has happened. First, I dressed up as (and did a fair-ish impersonation of) Marilyn Monroe in front of all my coworkers. We had an Academy Awards-themed charity event at my office, and myself and another theatre-oriented coworker were the becostumed auctioneers. It was exhausting, but a lot of fun - and we raised about $20,000!
Then we bought a condo! Yes, we are now the proud owners of a very blue bathtub. Oh, and the house that contains it, too. We've done a bit of work on it since the closing (we knocked a hole in the wall! On purpose!), and we are now in the throes of coordinating moving in/out, cleaning up/out, and throwing away/up. Ha! It's stressful, yessiree, but worth it. No more rent! Just check after endless check to the mortgage people! I'm just going to pretend that I'm sending checks to myself in the future. I picture my future self in a silver spacesuit, standing in a wasteland (what with the global warming and all), holding a check for all that money, waving happily and giving my past self a big ol' thumbs up.
Then Thanksgiving! We actually had two, because we are gluttonous Americans (and one Australian). Truth be told we did a smaller non-turkey dinner thingy on Thursday while waving to my sister who was performing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, and then had the more traditional turkey and stuffing and everything on Friday. It was awesome and now I am a big fat fatty.
So, as a motivator to be not so fat, I bought my wedding dress! I bought it off of ebay, brand new (with tags!), for less than half of what it goes for in the bridal salons. I am such a Bargain Betty. Hopefully it'll work out; it should arrive next week sometime. Fingers crossed that everything's ok.
And that's pretty much it. Oh, here's a picture of a rooster:
So today wasn't quite so hectic and crazy. I read my horoscope in this morning's Metro, and it said something like "You'd better get that chip off your shoulder quick" or something equally grammatically mutilated, and honestly, it made me stop to think. And I decided to change my attitude, at least for today. If I can do it for one day, just one day at a time, eventually those days will add up and hallelujah, I'll feel better. Funny thing, that.
Speaking of the funny, please meet my newest interweb obsession, comedian Maria Bamford's show:
That was the first in the series. If you have the same weird sense of humor I do, you can watch the rest over and over and over again here.
